Reflection

I've learned a lot this semester, but the two most crucial lessons I've taken away are how to manage my time and maintain my composure. These things are crucial since they will benefit me later in life, particularly during the upcoming semester when I have homework that must be completed. I've learned to be more resilient in this class. Being able to bounce back from the many things going on at home to do my schoolwork has taught me that if I can turn in my work whatever the circumstances, then I can accomplish anything.  My ability to manage my time better since enrolling in this course. Although I do have other issues at home I'm experiencing, I've learnt to be resilient and make sure my work gets turned in. Instead of going out with friends and staying up late, binge-watching my favorite animes, i've learned to put my priorities first and fun second.

Discussion 6. Due: Compare and Contrast Donatello's and Michelangelo's "David."

Image
Donatello's David for one is bronze and the expressions of both Michelangelo's "David" and Donatello's are different. Michelangelo's put a calmer, composed expression on his David. His David looks as if he's about to go into war with the giant whereas Donatello's "David" looks as if he had just won against the giant and he's proud of himself for his victory. Also, Donatello's "David" is more human sized verses Michelangelo's "David". Michelangelo's "David" is about three times the size of a human which gives off more of a superhuman aura.

Week 5: Artist and Artist Era

Image
For my project I chose Mark Newman and the era of hyperrealism.   Mark Newman is an American sculptor born in 1962. As of today, he has 20 years of sculpting experience and has sold his work in many stores such as Hallmark, Bowen Designs, Department 56 and more. He’s also created bronze statues for Stanford University. Mark spends much of his time in his studio making his hyper realistic sculptures and although he has many different styles, he is mostly recognized for his collaboration with Thomas Blackshear, both of them worked on a sculpting line called “Ebony Visions” I think Mark Newman really fits into this hyperrealism era because his sculptures offer variety while looking freakishly real. He doesn't have a specific style of sculpting because he sculpts just about everything from cartoon characters to real people.  I chose this era because it's very fascinating how artists, more specifically Mark can evoke certain emotions within the viewers.  I personally chose this era

Week 3: Art History & Appreciation Selfie Post

Image
T his is the selfie I took for Art History & Appreciation. A little background knowledge of this photo is that I took it in the backseat/trunk of my friend's car after we went to the dam to go swimming. We ended up leaving because our floaties were deflated. I picked this picture out because I felt like it was appropriate for this week's discussion.  This photo taken from above my face has a blue hue with a prism effect around the edges. If you really look at it, my nose and eyes have the most emphasis meanwhile my shoulder and lips are blurred by the effect. Besides my skin, I would say there is texture on my shoulder with the waves going on.  This photo also has balance to it because even though it has a blue hue to it you can see my skin tone peeping through all the blue, so the photo itself is not all completely blue.

An Artist in the Lascaux or Chauvet Cave Era.

Living today we know a lot about ancient civilizations such as who hunted, who nurtured, who protected and so on, but I don't think we would know as much as we do today if it wasn't for the cave illustrations, they made 10,000-30,000 years back.  I feel as though, if those cave illustrations weren't there, we would be missing a piece of history and we probably wouldn't know half the things we know today. Some things we probably wouldn't know are who hunted, the types of animals they had, entertainment, shelter and probably much more. If I lived in a cave over 30, ooo years ago I would probably be trying to convey messages to the far future. I would personally tell the future more about my life than the whole tribe life. I would paint my mom, dad, sisters and brother telling the future I have a family. I would then probably paint some animals around my dad, meaning that he hunts, I would paint flowers and crops around my mom and sisters conveying that they grow the f

Week Two; Art History & Appreciation Discussion

Image
Welcome back to week two of my Art History and Appreciation Discussion, today we will be discussing Kentridge and Fast and how they fit in as art makers.  I personally feel as if there is no standardized way an artist has to follow, when you look back in history all artists have their own concept and aesthetic, no two artists are the same.  Fast has found a way to portray his feeling through short clips of people talking and Kentridge has a style that isn't perfect and has very little to no color. I think most people when they see Kentridge's art may not think that its art because it probably won't make sense to them, But Kentridge said himself that his job is to draw not make sense and this is true for all artists, creativity has no limit and most times it doesn't make sense. Whereas Kentridge's art doesn't make much sense Fast's creations are literally telling you what he's thinking from small bits of clips. Most people wouldn't cons

Week One; Art History &Appreciation Discussion

H ello, my name is Christian, since I could remember, art has always been a part of my life, whether it's singing, painting or just crafting things. I can't really say I have a favorite form or type of art. I feel as if all art is a form of expression and I've tried just about everything to express myself. From singing, pottery, painting, drawing, poetry, digital, crafting, makeup and I can confidently say, I genuinely like them all.  Am I good at them all? No, Although I do wish to learn more about painting and poetry. I want to learn more about different authors and painters, and I want to learn more about different aesthetics of art and how they came about. I do feel as though different aesthetics have been popularized way more this year (2022) than any other year so it would be quite interesting to learn about different art forms and aesthetics.  Some of the things I do the most at home is draw and make jewelry and read and write. I do plan on starting a jewelry b
